Russell,
I've ordered your book (both ebook and paperback) and hope it can help my 16 year old daughter. She has crohn's/colitis is 16 yrs; 4'10 and about 65 pounds. It has stunted her growth and she still has not undergone puberty.
We need results very quickly. After successfully avoiding the doctors for several years we have had to "submit" to their recommendations because she is a minor and has had two blood transfusions in the past 9 months. We are under a microscope.
We have tried EVERYTHING to help her and spent thousands and thousands of dollars out of pocket. She is a straight A, very social student and is stuck at home this semester because she has to go so often and it can be urgent. She takes lots of supplements and is currently on the SCD diet. We started the diet
August 1, 2012.
Unfortunately she is on prednisone at 25 mg for now (working to taper) and started at 40 mg's in early Sept. It was either the steroid or a stint in her chest as she was down to 54 pounds. Those were the 2 options we were given at the time. She had had 2 doses of Remicade prior to that particular appointment and it almost killed her.
I am intrigued by the fiber. I juice for her daily for extra nutrition and she eats all whole foods and scd yogurt in addition to probiotics/boulardii. I was thinking about trying pysillium powder for her to try to get her some relief from the diarrhea. I am concerned about irritation on her very inflamed bowel (colonoscopy pictures were bad). She also has a perianal fistula. We are really struggling to stay positive and endure this situation.
Any thoughts/advice you have that we could implement immediately to help her would be greatly appreciated. I feel like we are doing so many things right but to see her suffering so much is unbearable at times. We have another GI appt next Wednesday. Once her anemia (currently 7.8 hemoglobin) is resolved and her inflammation (sed rate is 25) is in a normal range my prayer is to get away from these GI doctors.
Thank you so much for your time.
Annette (a very broken-hearted mom)
