Tom's Story: Ulcerative Colitis (current update)

Dear Russell,

It has been about 12 months since we last talked and I wanted to give you a short update.

We moved to San Antonio at the end of June and are enjoying Texas.  I have no issues with my Ulcerative Colitis
(UC).  On February 15, 2010, I celebrated my one year anniversary of being completely off Prednisone.  I know
this would not have been possible without your guidance and support.  I am following the principles and
practices you taught me most of the time.  Every now and then I stray, but for the most part I stay focused.  Even
when I do stray, I have no ill effects.

Thanks again for all you have done for me and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Take care,

Tom Martin

Tom's Story:  Ulcerative Colitis (Original Story)

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in the spring of 2006 after blood work from a routine army physical
indicated anemia. I was prescribed Rowasa enemas even though all this time I was asymptomatic. After 12
weeks I was switched from Rowasa to Asacol. In December, 2006 I was given Zithromax (antibiotic) to treat an
Upper Respiratory Infection. Following a 5 day treatment the diarrhea began and this ebbed and flowed over the
next few months but never went away. Things got progressively worse.

I had several accidents on my way to work (only 2 miles from my home) and anywhere from 10 to 20 bowel
movements a day. I lost over 40 lbs in 3 months. In April, 2007  I was prescribed Prednisone (steroid) to try to get
things under control. It did not work and I ended up in the hospital for 28 days. After one course of Remicade the
number of bowel movements decreased to about 1-3 a day. I was discharged with the instructions to continue
on 40mg of prednisone per day. Remicade was stopped after a severe allergic reaction during my second dose
in September. I was switched to bi-weekly Humira injections. I still could not get below 20mg of Prednisone a
day.

Next my GI doctor wanted me to try 6 MP (another colitis drug) to try to wean me off the steroids. I had an
immediate (bad) reaction to the 6MP which put me back in the hospital for 3 days. At this point, I was ready to
have surgery to get rid of my colon. While in the hospital, my neighbor told my wife about Russell and let me
borrow a copy of his book; Healing Digestive Illness. (The neighbor's name is Mary Katherine Dunston) My
neighbor gave us Russell's phone number and said to call him. I read the first part of the book and it made
sense to me. I called Russell and expected to get an answering machine. I was surprised when he answered
the phone. We talked for awhile and set up our first phone consultation for the following week. On this call, we
talked for over an hour about the Intestinal Regeneration Program he created. I was ready to apply these
principles and practices to save my colon and to get off of the medications. Since starting the program around 12
weeks ago I have successfully weaned of Prednisone. It has been 4 weeks now being prednisone free. My
bowel movements are normal, I am gaining weight, and I feel great!

I now feel that I have taken control of my disease. I am not ready to have my colon removed. It is incredible that
after 8 weeks I was able to stop using prednisone when all attempts prior to Russell's program had been
unsuccessful.

I started Russell's program on December 8th, 2008 and completed it in March 2009.

I was skeptical in the beginning because I had tried other diets, such as Specific Carbohydrate Diet, which had
been ineffective. My intial fear was that I would work with Russell but that in the end I would be looking at surgery
again.

I learned that the body wants to heal itself and just needs the necessary materials and full cooperation from me,
for that to happen. Eating whole grains, organic quality food and the proper supplements are the keys to healing
digestive illness.

Thank-you again Russell for being there when I needed you. I encourage others to try your program.

Thank-you Tom! Thank you for your willingness to learn. Thank you for your commitment to being and becoming
more proactive in your own self-care. Thank you for being another beautiful example of someone who has
healed himself completely from a debilitating digestive disorder. May your story inspire many people to take the
actions that will heal themselves too!

And thank-you to everyone not named Tom Martin, for reading Tom's story today. Please forward this email on to
anyone that you know with Ulcerative Colitis...and any other digestive disorder.

Find and do the things that nourish you best; and all will be well.

Today and always,

Sincerely,

Russell
